If you’re looking for a Stanley House wedding photographer, you’ve come to the right place. Stanley House Hotel is tucked away in 54 acres of Ribble Valley countryside, and it’s one of those venues that just gets it right. A 17th-century Grade II listed manor house with all the character you’d hope for — beautifully kept grounds, elegant interiors, a real sense of occasion — but none of the stuffiness. It’s warm, relaxed, and endlessly photogenic.

What It’s Like to Photograph a Wedding at Stanley House
I’ve photographed two weddings at Stanley House Hotel now — one larger celebration and one more intimate day. Both times I’ve come away thinking what a well-designed venue this is, and why having a Stanley House wedding photographer who knows the building matters. Every space flows into the next in a way that makes the day feel natural rather than staged, which is exactly what you want when you’re documenting a wedding rather than directing one.
The ceremony and wedding breakfast rooms upstairs have a lovely feel to them, with generous window light and elegant surroundings that photograph beautifully without needing to do anything clever. They’re contemporary spaces done well. There’s a warmth and a richness to the setting that gives every photograph depth.
Downstairs, the bar area used for drinks receptions is one of my favourite spots in the building. The light in there is genuinely good, and it’s where guests tend to relax and let their guard down — which is exactly when the best candid moments happen. Some of my favourite photographs from both Stanley House weddings have come from that bar during the drinks reception, when nobody’s thinking about cameras.
The sweeping staircase and chandelier in the reception area are worth mentioning as well. They’re the kind of architectural details that give you strong, striking frames without needing to overthink it — the venue does the work for you.

Outside, the grounds at Stanley House give you real options. There are plenty of spaces for group photographs without having to trek your guests halfway across Lancashire, and for couples who want a few quieter portraits away from the crowd, you’re spoiled for choice. The Ribble Valley countryside rolls out in every direction, and on a good day those backdrops are hard to beat. Whether you want open sky and rolling green or something more sheltered and intimate, it’s all there within a short walk. It’s easy to see why Stanley House won Hotel Wedding Venue of the Year at the Lancashire Tourism Awards.

The Right Venue for the Right Couple
Stanley House suits couples who want a Lancashire wedding venue with real character but without the formality feeling forced. Whether you’re planning a larger celebration or something smaller and more personal, the spaces here adapt beautifully. The fact that everything happens under one roof — ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, and evening celebrations. That means the day has a natural rhythm to it, and guests can settle in and enjoy themselves without being shuffled between locations.
The team at Stanley House know what they’re doing, the Mellor setting does half the work for you, and your guests get to enjoy a genuinely beautiful part of the Ribble Valley. As a Stanley House wedding photographer, I couldn’t ask for much more from a venue. If you’re getting married at Stanley House and looking for a wedding photographer who works in a relaxed, documentary style, I’d love to hear from you.
“We loved all the photos. It captures the wedding perfectly. Moments of pure joy, terror, confusion and playfulness!”
