Here’s an Autumnal Rothley Court wedding
Chloe & Paul tied the knot at the beautiful St. Mary’s church in Barkby, Leicestershire and moved on to the Rothley Court Hotel for their reception.
Chloe & Paul give us the story of their Rothley Court wedding in their own words below.
Our venues and why we chose them.
“We chose to get married at St Mary’s church in Barkby, as this is local to us and has a family history. I also love the fact that we can see the church spire from our bedroom window every morning when we open the curtains; a constant reminder of a wonderful day!
The vicar was so helpful and the church itself is lovely, with a long tree lined path down to the gates so everyone can line up and throw lots of confetti as you walk past.
We held our reception at Rothley Court Hotel due to the budget (which allowed us to choose our own wedding breakfast and almost create our own package) and the location.
The grounds are stunning and with a late October wedding, we liked that there were lots of different rooms for people to sit & chat, or warm themselves by the fire. As it happens, the fire was not needed as it was the hottest Halloween since 1960!
The staff at the venue were extremely professional and helpful, the food was fantastic and I would really recommend this venue to anyone looking for somewhere with character and a bit of history.”
Our wedding theme.
“I would describe our wedding style as hand-made! Given I was marrying a Yorkshireman! I didn’t really have much choice, but I’m really pleased with the way things turned out. Everything was personal to us which meant so much more.
We wanted to have a really great day spent with our family and friends and make it as memorable as possible. All of the things we were most worried about ended up being the most successful.”
“We chose Ian because we already knew him and liked the images he had taken for other people.
We are not the most photogenic couple & didn’t want to spend hours posing while our guests got bored so his photo-journalistic style suited us perfectly. Ian made the whole experience trouble free and helped us with the timings given his vast experience!
We were so excited to see our images for the first time and they did not disappoint – the mix of black & white to colour was great.
We can’t recommend Ian strongly enough if you want to capture natural, evocative images. Most of our guests did not even realise he was there or had captured such fantastic images of them!”
Other suppliers we used.
“Stationery, wedding cake, bunting, table decorations & individual glass favours were all made by us but we were amazed by the service & quality we received for the wedding car, fireworks and bands. They were all so accommodating and helpful, and I really liked that they were local to the East Midlands.
Celestial firework displays were amazing. We were totally blown away by the display, given that we had gone with their budget package. People’s reactions to the fireworks were brilliant and I would definitely use them again.
The band ‘Decent Chaps’ and duet ‘ArkAngel’ again, were so accommodating. Letting me choose my playlist from their repertoire made it even more special. I’m so glad we had live musicians rather than a DJ, it made for such a fantastic atmosphere and got everyone dancing.
We used Nostalgic Carriage Company in Glenfield and the car was beautiful and the driver prompt and organised. He’d even worked out the best route to the church and venue so we didn’t have to worry about getting stuck in any traffic!
I bought my wedding dress from the Bridal Room in Birstall and they were so lovely. All dresses are designer ex-sample wedding dresses at a fraction of the price of many other outlets but you wouldn’t know this from the service I received. They made me feel special even though I wasn’t spending a fortune.
The shoes were from the Jenny Packham No.1 range at Debenhams and the suits were from Next.”
Any tips for couples in the stages of planning their own weddings?
- “Accept people’s help if they offer it, but be prepared that they may not do things exactly the way you would.”
- “Don’t expect everything to be perfect – obviously it is an important day but things go wrong and it’s how you handle this which makes the difference – try and keep a sense of perspective!”
- “You can’t please everyone so as long as the bride and groom are happy and end up as a married couple, then that is all that really matters!”
- “Don’t be afraid to ask for a discount – if you don’t ask, you don’t get! If they can’t reduce the price, see if they can offer anything as an extra instead.”
