Please read this page carefully. It sets out the basis on which I provide the information on bursill.com. It does not affect the terms of any order you place with me, which are set out in my Terms and Conditions, nor your statutory rights as a consumer.
General information only
Everything on this website is provided for general information. I take care to keep it accurate and current, but I do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, or up to date at any given moment. Nothing here constitutes advice on which you should rely without first speaking to me about your specific project.
Colour, materials, and photographs of products
This is the point I would most like you to read.
The albums, covers, papers, and finishes shown on this site are photographed as faithfully as I can manage, but screens lie. Colour, texture, and finish will differ from what you see here depending on your monitor or phone, its calibration, its brightness, and the light you are sitting in. Leather, linen, wood, and metal are natural or semi-natural materials with genuine variation between batches — two covers ordered in the same colour a year apart may not be identical, and that variation is a characteristic of the material rather than a fault.
Grain, weave, and depth of colour cannot be judged from a photograph. If a particular finish matters to you, come and see the samples at my studio before you commit. I hold the swatches here rather than sending them out, and I would far rather you made the trip than have an album remade.
Printed pages are likewise subject to normal commercial tolerances in colour, density, and trim.
Mock-ups and visualisations
Some images on this site, and some proofs I send during a project, are digital mock-ups rather than photographs of a finished album. They are produced by placing a design into a manufacturer's rendered template, and they exist to show how a layout sits on a page or a cover.
A mock-up is a simulation. It cannot show you print quality, ink density, paper texture, the depth of a debossed cover, or how light falls across a material. It will generally look cleaner and more saturated than the printed article, because nothing has passed through a press. Please treat it as an indication of layout and composition only, and ask for physical samples if the finish is what you are trying to judge.
Examples of previous work
Images shown on this site are examples of albums and restorations I have produced. They illustrate what is possible; they are not a promise of an identical result. Every project starts with different source material, and the outcome depends on it.
Restoration and colourisation
Restoration results depend entirely on the condition, resolution, and detail present in the original photograph. Damage can be repaired convincingly, but detail that no longer exists in the original cannot be recovered — it can only be reconstructed. That reconstruction, whether done by hand or with the assistance of AI tools, is an informed approximation of what was probably there. It is not a recovery of the original, and it should not be relied upon as evidence of fact — for identification, genealogical proof, or any similar purpose.
I use AI tools as part of my restoration process, under human review. How I Use Artificial Intelligence explains where I use them, where I am cautious, and what I will not do. If you would prefer your photographs were worked on without them, that can be arranged.
Colourisation is an interpretation. Where the true colours of clothing, décor, or surroundings are unknown, I make informed choices based on the period and the subject. I am glad to be corrected if you know what colour a dress actually was, but a colourised photograph should be understood as an artistic reconstruction, not a historical record.
Where I do not believe a worthwhile result is achievable from the material supplied, I will tell you before taking payment.
Prices, quotations, and availability
Prices shown on this site are indicative and may change without notice. A written quotation from me is valid for 30 days from its date and reflects the specification recorded in it; changes to size, page count, materials, or finish will change the price.
Product ranges, materials, colours, and finishes are controlled by my manufacturers, not by me. They are periodically revised or withdrawn. Where an item shown here is no longer available, I will offer the closest alternative.
Turnaround times
Any timescales given on this site or in correspondence are estimates in good faith, based on my current workload and my manufacturers' production schedules. They are not guarantees. Production times can be affected by proofing rounds, manufacturer capacity, seasonal peaks, and shipping. If you have a fixed deadline — an anniversary, a retirement, a funeral — tell me at the outset and I will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
Your files and back-ups
I am not an archive service. While your images are with me I keep them securely and backed up, but you should always retain your own copies of any photograph, scan, or file you send me. I cannot accept responsibility for the loss of material of which no other copy exists. Where you send me irreplaceable physical prints, I return them by tracked, insured delivery, and I recommend insuring them for their sentimental as well as monetary value where that is possible.

Liability
Nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes my liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else which cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. In particular, nothing here affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Subject to that, I accept no liability for any loss arising from reliance on the information on this website.
