Requests to use my material go to
Photographs shown on this website
Images on this site come from three sources, and different rights attach to each.
My own work
Photographs of albums I have made, cover and material details I have shot myself, and before-and-after examples of my restoration work. I hold the copyright in these.
Client work, published with permission
Finished albums and spreads containing photographs taken by others, shown with the express permission of the client and, where applicable, the photographer who took the original images. Client work is never published without asking first.
Manufacturer product photography
Some images showing album ranges, cover materials, papers, boxes, and finishes are supplied by the manufacturers whose products I sell, including Graphistudio. Copyright in those images remains with the manufacturer or with the photographers who made them. I use them under the terms of my trade accounts, which permit me to promote the products I supply. I cannot pass that permission on: if you want to use a manufacturer's product image, please approach the manufacturer directly.
Composite images and mock-ups
Some images combine the two. Manufacturers supply layered template files which let me place a photograph of my own into a rendered album cover or spread, so that a design can be seen in context. In these composites, the surrounding product image remains the manufacturer's copyright and the photograph placed into it is mine, or my client's and used with their permission. Neither element may be extracted, separated, or reused.
If you are a client, or a photographer whose work appears in an album shown here, and you would like an image removed from this site, contact me and I will take it down. You do not need to give a reason.
Photographs and files you send me
This matters, so it is worth stating plainly.
Copyright in a photograph normally belongs to the person who took it, not to the person in it or the person who paid for it. In wedding photography, that means the photographer usually owns the copyright in your wedding images even though you commissioned and paid for them, unless your contract with them says otherwise.
By sending me images to design, print, restore, or colourise, you confirm that you either own the copyright or have the copyright owner's permission to have the work reproduced by a third party on your behalf. Many photographers grant exactly this permission in their contracts, and many are glad to confirm it in an email if asked. Some do not permit third-party printing at all.
If you are unsure, ask your photographer before you send the files. I would much rather pause for a week than reproduce someone's work without their agreement.
I may decline to proceed with any job where I have reasonable grounds to doubt that the necessary permissions exist, and I may ask you to provide written confirmation from the photographer. You agree to indemnify me against any claim brought by a third party arising from my reproduction of material you supplied without the necessary rights.
Where old family photographs are concerned, copyright may still subsist in studio portraits, school photographs, and press images, sometimes long after the photographer or studio has ceased trading. In practice this rarely causes difficulty with private family restoration work, but I will raise it with you if I think it may.
Album designs
The page layouts, sequencing, and design work I produce for you remain my copyright. You are granted an unlimited personal licence to enjoy, display, and reproduce the finished album and the design files I supply for your own private purposes, including ordering further copies through me.
Design files are supplied for reproduction by me or by the specified manufacturer. If you wish to have your album produced elsewhere, or to use the layouts commercially, please talk to me — this is generally arrangeable, not forbidden.
Third-party trade marks
Graphistudio, and any other product or company names mentioned on this site are the trade marks of their respective owners. I refer to them, and reproduce their product photography and material references, because I hold trade accounts with them and supply their products. Nothing on this site implies any endorsement, sponsorship, or partnership beyond that ordinary trade relationship.
Reporting an infringement
If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, email
- Your name and contact details
- Identification of the material you say is infringing, with the page address
- Identification of the original work, and evidence of your rights in it
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised
I will investigate promptly and remove anything I cannot show I am entitled to use.
Equally, if you find my content reproduced elsewhere without permission, I would be grateful if you would let me know.
