An Autumnal Mythe Barn Wedding | Jadie & Mike
Here’s Jadie & Mike’s Autumnal Mythe Barn Wedding. It’s always great to be back at Mythe Barn. It’s a fab place for weddings as the layout doesn’t split up the wedding party. And as Jadie mentions below, the whole of the wedding day can be held in just one location, so there’s no travelling from the preparations, to the ceremony and then to the reception.

So, how did you meet? - tell us a little more about yourselves.
“We met at university in Leeds. Mike was studying law and I was studying Business Management. It wasn’t until the end of our second year that we started dating, being introduced to each other through mutual friends.
When we finished university I moved back home to Leicester while Mike completed his Legal Practice Course in Leeds. We had a long distance relationship seeing each other most weekends for the next 4 years until Mike found a position in Nottingham working within clinical negligence and moved down to the East Midlands.
We now have a lovely house in Burbage together with our dog and could not be happier”
The proposal - who proposed, where, when & how?
“Mike proposed to me while on holiday in Mallorca. The proposal took place on the second night as Mike could no longer live with the fear of losing the ring. It was absolutely perfect; we had returned back to the apartment for drinks on the balcony after a wonderful meal of chateaubriand and a walk along the warm sandy beach.
On the third night, we went to a local bar to watch a comedian. He went around the audience asking where they were from amongst other questions.
When he came to us he asked our names and if we were married. Mike said, “not yet but we are engaged”. He then proceeded to ask how long we had been engaged to which he replied “one day”. We received a round of applause but I have always found it weird that strangers were the first to find out we were engaged.”
How was the wedding planning process for you?
“Mike was dragged around the Midlands on all of his weekends off looking at venues. But once we had found our choice the process went quite smoothly.
The place we chose could not have been more helpful. We were invited to opening evenings and taster events to really get an understanding of how the day would go.
The next mission I had was to find the perfect dress. With red hair, fair skin and short in stature I believed a lace fishtail dress would be the style for me after being told to avoid a big skirt.
It took about 6 months and numerous dress shops to find the perfect dress which was a Hayley Paige design with a full skirt.
Bonus tip: Try on every style in the beginning.”
Where did you get married and what was it about the venue(s) that appealed so much?
“We were married at Mythe Barn in Warwickshire. The most appealing feature of the venue was the natural light. Compared to many of the stately homes we visited it felt so fresh and modern and was everything we had dreamed of.
The fact that the venue supplies food, drink and accommodation were the icings on the cake. It made everything so much easier for us.”
How would you describe the style of your wedding and what made you decide to go down that route?
“There was no set-out style or vision that we went for in the beginning, but to describe it would be fresh, modern with a bit of a rustic feel. We wanted it to be a happy occasion where everybody could comfortably relax while also have a feeling of luxury.”
Cuisine. What kind of food and drink was served and why?
“Food was one of the most important parts of the wedding to us. Our worst nightmare would be for any of the guests to feel hungry at any point.
With that in mind, we started the day with a selection of canapés: Mini Fish and Chips, Mini Sheperd’s Pie, Risotto Balls and Smoked Salmon Blini.
For the wedding breakfast, we decided on a three-course menu: Egg with Pancetta, Fillet Steak and Chocolate Brownie.
For our evening food, we had a spit roast Leg of Lamb with batches accompanied by our wedding cake. The bottom tier was chocolate, the middle was lemon, and the top was fruit cake. We bought a separate cutting fruit cake so that we could save the top tier.
Our guests still talk about the Scotch Egg starter!”
What were the most memorable part(s) of the day and what was the funniest moment?
“The most memorable part of the day for me was the speeches. They made me laugh, cry and most importantly realise how lucky I am to have all these wonderful people in my life. The most memorable part for Mike was seeing me in the dress for the first time. He told me I looked beautiful.
The funniest moment was when the band came on and all of the guests – no matter what age – got up for a dance and let their hair down. We love live music, and that was a must for us for the entertainment to be a live band, it kept the party going until the end.”
Did anything go wrong on the day and were there any surprises?
“We did have one thing go wrong on the day. One of the guest’s names was left off the table plan in error. Luckily Mike noticed when the guest walked in and subtly made sure there was a place setting made up for him. Mike then bribed the guest’s brother to distract him from the table plan and guide him to his seat.”
Is there anything you would have done differently?
“I wouldn’t plan to go out for Sunday dinner with the family (or anywhere) the next day. After the sleepless nights in the run-up to the wedding and a long day, all I wanted to do was stay at home in my pyjamas and order takeaway.”
Do you have any advice for other couples in the stages of planning their own dream day wedding?
“Allow 20% on top of your original budget for things you have forgotten or would not even imagine buying/costing that much. All the little things at the end of the planning process like underwear, presents and makeup.
Make sure you get the entertainment you and your guests will enjoy, we loved how much our friends and family enjoyed the band.”
