Ian Bursill Photography bio picture

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog site. I am a wedding photojournalist based in Loughborough, Leicestershire and am one of just 48 English members of the WPJA - Wedding Photojournalist Association. I shoot wedding images in a documentary style with no intrusion (apart from a few formals if requested) enabling my clients and their guests to get on enjoy their day without worrying about the photography taking over.

I’ve been passionate about documentary photography since I was 12, when my dad bought me my first camera, a russian 35mm rangefinder. I was the school’s resident photojournalist, recording the fights and the duckings in the biology pool on pupils’ birthdays. I developed all of our own black & white work in the home darkroom and I shot about three or four weddings as a teenager before I eventually found girls, football & golf! I am happily married to Jo with two beautiful daughters, Neve and Maya.

At a close friend's wedding about seven years ago, the traditional photographer he hired took about two hours to shoot the formal group shots. As a guest, I was simply shooting for myself that day and noted that a lot of guests were complaining about the length of time stood waiting around. My vocation was soon realised when my friend said that he preferred my natural and relaxed images to the official photographer’s work and my passion for photography & recording images in a photojournalistic style was rekindled.

I now shoot digitally, working in RAW with the latest professional Nikon D3 & D700 cameras and pro lenses/flashguns. 98% of my images are captured without the use of a flash, preferring to utilise the beauty of natural light. This also enables me to remain very unobtrusive at weddings.

James & Chloe, St John East Farndon & Kelmarsh Hall, Northants

Had a wonderful day covering James & Chloe’s wedding on Saturday 28th June. The day started in East Farndon, Leicestershire covering the boys’ preparations at the couple’s house. Then over to Chloe’s parents house for the girls’ preparations and then on to the village church for the ceremony.

The stunning venue for the reception was Kelmarsh Hall, just over the county border in Northamptonshire. James’ best man laid on a surprise game of ‘deal or no deal’ and each box contained stories from their childhood & teenage past – a novel twist to the best man’s speech and a source of great amusement!

As always, a few select shots are below to tell the story of a wonderful day…

yogavenger - As usual your photos are bright, well composed and full of the flavour of the day. Fantastic work! I think my favourite photo is the shot in the grounds. Isn't it really nice to see the couple beaming on the day? They must have had a lot of fun. Good stuff pal. I love the rich colour. Keep 'em coming!July 16, 2008 - 7:37 am
