Chris & Lisa, Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire

Friday 3rd October – Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire. Two days before, I never thought that I would actually make it to this wedding! I was carrying a laser printer from one room to another and twisted to get through the door when all of a sudden my back went. The most amazing surge of sharp pain shot right up my spine and I ended up on the floor – luckily I somehow managed to save the printer from smashing into pieces.

For the next 15 minutes I experienced the most excrutiating pain when moving just millimetres in an effort to get up. No good. The paramedics were called and treated me to a good ol’ dose of laughing gas. Amazing stuff, I want some of this at home! This relaxed my muscles enough to enable me to get up and climb into the waiting ambulance where I was administered with a Morphine injection and whizzed off to Leicester Royal Infirmary. The only thing that I could think of was not being able to shoot the wedding of Chris & Lisa at one of my favourite venues. After a check-up on a side ward, a doctor discharged me with the diagnosis of a “bad muscle spasm” and nothing worse. He handed me a prescription for some industrial strength painkillers and off I hobbled.

Luckily, I have a network of photographer contacts and – by the end of the day – had managed to line up four emergency replacements who were all willing to shoot for me. I made the decision the following day that I would work through the pain barrier and shoot the wedding myself. As it turns out, the painkillers were so strong I hardly felt a twinge all day – and boy, what a glorious day!

The “Indian Summer” showed its kind face and provided some really dramatic light towards the end of the day.

Ben & Jennifer, Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel

The Oxford Thames Four Pillars was the venue for the wedding celebration of Ben & Jennifer on Saturday 27th September. As you’ll be able to tell from the pictures, this was a military wedding and both Ben & Jennifer serve in the RAF. The weather was glorious and reminds me of a post I stuck on a pro-wedding photographers’ forum that I am a member of. I asked the question “which month would you get married in” and the winner was the month of September closely followed by October. The sun is a lot lower in the sky which makes for more dramatic lighting and the leaves on the trees are also starting to turn to their beautiful autumnal shades of red, orange, copper, bronze & yellow.

Matty - More brilliant photography Ian. A pleasure, as usual, to look over. And the detail of the military regalia is fabulous. But the real winner for me is that stunning final capture. Exceptional!October 18, 2008 – 3:08 pm

Rosie - Beautiful shot by the boat!October 31, 2008 – 11:29 pm

Chris & Sarah, St Edwards Castle Donington & Hazelrigg Hall

St Edwards Church, Castle Donington & Hazelrigg Hall at Loughborough University were the locations for the wedding of Chris and Sarah on the 30th August. Both Chris and Sarah are originally from Castle Donington, but now live in Bristol, so it was nice for them to come home and share their day with close family. They even brought along a videographer from Bristol with them – Ben Pope, a nice guy and great to work with. I have some horror stories about some videographers, but Ben was a breath of fresh air!

This is the first time I have shot at this particular church, it is a beautiful venue and look forward to working there again in the future. Hazelrigg Hall on the Loughborough University campus was also a great venue with an incredible art deco interior and amazing stained glass windows. A selection of photos (not necessarily my favourites) are below to tell the story of the day in an abridged fashion.
